Pretribulationism is a Premillennialist futurist theory concerning the timing of the rapture, which places the rapture as happening before the Great Tribulation. Concerning the theory of Dispensationalism and how the idea strongly popularized the Pretribulation rapture theory in the early 19th century, Pretribulationism strongly emphasizes a clear distinction between Israel and the Church. Pretribulationists strongly promote the idea of the Church being excluded from the wrath of God, in which they equate the Day of the Lord with the Great Tribulation.
